Designed specifically for people living in the Solent area, these bootcamps are ideal for anyone aiming to grow professionally – whether within a new or current role, or by boosting their own business. With a focus on practical, hands-on training and relevant industry insights, including sectors such as Marine Electrics & Marine Welding, you’ll develop skills employers value.

Solent Marine Electrician Skills Bootcamp

Gain essential marine electrical skills with this funded Solent Marine Electrician Skills Bootcamp. This 10-week course, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) via the Solent Growth Partnership, is designed for marine employers and engineers in the Solent region looking to upskill in marine electrics. Developed in collaboration with industry experts & local employers – and delivered by the British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA), the course offers comprehensive, practical training to enhance your capabilities. Domestic electricians looking to expand into the marine sector are also welcome to apply.

Solent Marine Fabrication & Welding Skills Bootcamp

Gain practical fabrication and welding skills with this Solent Growth Partnership and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) funded, Solent Marine Fabrication & Welding Skills Bootcamp. Designed for local marine employers across the Solent region, this industry-led programme has been developed in partnership with employers to meet growing demand for skilled fabrication and welding professionals. Delivered by British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA) in partnership with Fareport Training, this employer co-funded course combines hands-on workshop training, classroom learning and continuous assessment to upskill staff in the maritime sector.

Funding overview: How it works

Here’s a breakdown of how our training is funded, depending on your employment status and the size of your organisation:

Sole traders, freelancers, business owners (without employees) & the unemployed in the Solent area: Full funding is provided by the Solent Growth Partnership, so there’s no cost to you.

SMEs (under 250 staff) in the Solent area: Your business pays just 10% of the total training cost per employee. The remaining 90% is covered by the Solent Growth Partnership.

Larger organisations (250+ employees) in the Solent area: A 30% contribution from your organisation is required, with Solent Growth Partnership funding covering the rest.

Important Note: Each eligible learner can access one fully funded Bootcamp between April 1 and March 31 of each financial year.

Eligibility for fully funded training

You may be able to join a Solent Skills Bootcamp at no cost if you meet the following conditions:

  • Reside within the Solent region
  • Are 19 or older as of August 31, 2026
  • Legally permitted to work in the UK
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for at least 1 year
  • Operate as a Sole Trader, Freelancer, are self-employed without any staff, or are unemployed
