Course Overview

In our comprehensive Fundraising Essentials programme, you will gain the practical knowledge, confidence and skills needed to successfully raise funds for charities, schools, PTAs, hospices, care homes and community organisations. From understanding different fundraising income streams and identifying funding opportunities to writing grant applications and building compelling cases for support, this programme covers the core principles of effective fundraising.

You’ll also develop valuable digital marketing skills to help promote fundraising campaigns, engage supporters through social media, create impactful content and maximise online fundraising opportunities. Alongside fundraising and digital engagement techniques, you’ll strengthen your communication, teamwork, leadership and organisational skills, helping you make a greater impact within your organisation, community or future career.

18 hours over 3 days (6 hours per day with plenty of breaks included)

We are running two cohorts for the Fundraising Essentials course during July 2026. Each cohort consists of 3 full-day sessions delivered online from 9:30am to 4:00pm, with regular breaks throughout the day. Cohort 1 will be on Wednesday 8th July 2026, Friday 10th July 2026 and Friday 17th July 2026. Cohort 2 will run on Thursday 23rd July 2026, Friday 24th July 2026 and Thursday 30th July 2026.

Fundraising Essentials certificate of completion from Fareport Training & Hampshire County Council

This training programme is fully funded through Hampshire County Council & the UK Government. It is available to eligible Hampshire residents aged 19 and over. Please note the entry requirements listed below.

Are you a Hampshire resident aged 19 or older who wants to make a bigger impact in your community? Whether you volunteer for a charity, support a school or PTA, help a hospice or care home, or are looking to develop new skills for employment or personal development, our Fundraising Essentials programme is designed for you. Learn practical fundraising and digital marketing skills that can help local organisations raise more money and achieve their goals.

To enrol on the Fundraising Essentials course, learners must:

  • Be aged 19 or over
  • Live in Hampshire
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Have maintained UK residency for at least the last 12 months

In addition, learners must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Earn less than £25,750 per year
  • Be in receipt of Universal Credit
  • Not hold a full Level 2 qualification
  • Be part of a family with school-age children receiving free school meals
  • Have a learning difficulty and/or disability
  • Be at risk of, or currently experiencing, mental health needs
  • Be a Care Leaver
  • Be a Refugee
  • Be a Military Veteran
  • Be aged 50+ and looking to return to employment

Modules

This session explores the role and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant and how they contribute to the wider school environment. Learners will also reflect on the importance of being a positive role model in daily school life.

The focus here is on developing effective relationships with learners, teachers, and other professionals to support learner progress. Participants will also learn about professional boundaries and relevant legislation.

This session introduces key stages of child and adolescent development, from the Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5. It also addresses the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s).

In this session, participants will explore different types of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and learn inclusive teaching strategies. The session also covers assistive technology, relevant legislation, and Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This session provides strategies for supporting English and Maths learning in alignment with the national curriculum. It also examines ways to adapt teaching for learners with SEND.

Learners will be introduced to the cycle of learning, assessment, and feedback. The session also covers monitoring progress, formative assessment strategies, scaffolding, and questioning techniques.

This session explores approaches to behaviour management, including when to apply rewards and sanctions. The importance of positive communication and collaboration for supporting SEND learners is also highlighted.

Here participants will gain an understanding of the importance of legislation, policies, and procedures in educational settings. Safeguarding, Data Protection, British Values, Keeping Children Safe In Education (KCSIE), Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and local safeguarding partnerships are unpacked.

The focus of this session is on supporting learners’ social, emotional, and mental health needs. It also covers online safety, bullying, and the role of wider support services such as CAMHS and MHST.

This final session introduces career pathways such as apprenticeships, HLTA roles, and teaching routes. It also reinforces professional standards to support future development.

Build a strong foundation in fundraising by exploring the key principles, strategies and income streams used by charities and community organisations. You’ll learn how to identify funding opportunities, understand the basics of grant applications and bid writing, and create compelling cases for support that inspire donors to take action. The day also covers effective communication techniques, stakeholder engagement and how to work successfully with volunteers, supporters and donors.

Day 2: Fundraising Delivery, Risk Management & Professional Skills

Discover how to plan and deliver fundraising activities safely, effectively and professionally. You’ll learn how to identify and manage risks, understand health and safety responsibilities, safeguard volunteers and supporters, and measure the success of fundraising campaigns. The day also focuses on developing valuable workplace skills including leadership, teamwork, time management and organisation, while exploring progression opportunities within charities, community organisations and fundraising teams.

Day 3: Digital Marketing & Online Fundraising

Learn how to use digital tools and online platforms to increase awareness, engage supporters and maximise fundraising results. You’ll explore social media marketing, content creation, email marketing and online fundraising platforms, gaining practical skills to help promote campaigns and encourage donations. The day also covers digital fundraising best practices, GDPR and data protection requirements, ensuring your fundraising activities remain effective, compliant and ethical.

She primarily delivers HR Level 3, Fundraiser Level 3, L&D Level 3, L&D Level 5, Learning and Skills Teacher Level 5, Retail Level 2,3,4.

Coming from a Management background in Retail and Hospitality for over 20 years, prior to this working in variety of HR and Administration based roles in Banking, Solicitors, Recruitment, Payroll, Health & Safety and whilst at College I was a Butcher at Sainsbury’s.

No. Fundraising Essentials is designed for beginners as well as those already involved in fundraising activities. Whether you volunteer for a charity, support a school or PTA, help at a hospice or community group, or simply want to develop new skills, the course will provide practical guidance and hands-on learning to help you raise funds more effectively.

To be eligible, you must be aged 19 or over, live in Hampshire, have the right to work in the UK and have maintained UK residency for at least the last 12 months. You must also meet at least one funding criteria, such as earning less than £25,750 per year, receiving Universal Credit, being a military veteran, care leaver, refugee, over 50 and looking to return to work, or meeting one of the other eligibility requirements listed on this page. By the end of the programme, you’ll have a practical understanding of fundraising, grant applications, supporter engagement, social media marketing and digital fundraising tools. You’ll be able to apply these skills within charities, schools, PTAs, hospices, care homes and community organisations, while also developing transferable skills in communication, leadership, teamwork and digital marketing that can support future volunteering, employment or further learning opportunities.
