The business case for Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships offer much more than training: they are a strategic investment in your people and the future of your business. Here’s how they deliver business impact:
- Immediate contribution – Apprentices are working in your business while learning, so they begin to add value from day one.
- Industry-recognised qualifications – From Level 2 up to higher levels, apprenticeships ensure learners gain credible, relevant credentials aligned to your sector.
- Improved retention & engagement – Offering development paths shows your team you value them, helping reduce turnover and recruitment costs.
- Skills-gap closure & future-proofing – With rapid change in technology and business models, apprenticeships help ensure your workforce keeps pace, bridging gaps before they hold you back.
- Cost-effective funding – Funding options mean you can access high-quality training for minimal cost. SMEs often pay only a small fraction; levy-payers can maximise their investment.
- Competitive advantage – A skilled, engaged workforce sets you apart. When your team has better capability than your competitors, your business is stronger.

- Launch and support – Our experienced trainers and assessors support your apprentices, monitor progress, manage off-the-job training and keep you informed.
Apprenticeships vs Traditional Recruitment: Which Delivers Better Long-Term Results?
What employers need to know
From funding options to the measurable benefits of Apprenticeships, this section covers the key information employers ask about most. Explore how investing in training can close skills gaps, boost productivity, and support long-term growth.
Funding made simple
We know cost and complexity can deter employers — that’s why we simplify it.
- SMEs (non-levy employers) – Usually you pay only 5% of the apprenticeship training costs, with the government funding the rest. Fareport Training have employers ready to transfer their levy to SMEs, so in many cases the training can be fully funded for apprentices of all ages.
- Large employers / levy payers – Use your apprenticeship levy funds to cover training; unused levy funds can even be transferred to smaller businesses. (Fareport Training)
- Incentives available – Examples: £1,000 bonus for hiring a 16-18 year-old apprentice; NI exemptions for under-25s; care-leaver bursary. (Fareport Training)
- No hidden costs – We’ll walk you through all contributions so you fully understand the investment, the business benefit and the funding route.
Business advantages of Apprenticeships for Employers
Training through apprenticeships isn’t just HR activity — it fuels business growth. Here are key benefits:
- Greater productivity – Skilled apprentices quickly become effective contributors to your team, reducing wasted time and error.
- Better quality and consistency – Well-trained staff deliver higher standards, fewer mistakes and an enhanced customer experience.
- Lower recruitment & onboarding costs – Develop talent internally rather than constantly hiring externally.
Stronger employer brand – Companies known for training attract better candidates and win in the talent market. - Leadership pipeline & succession planning – Use apprenticeships to build future managers and keep critical roles filled.
- Adaptability to change – With a workforce trained in emerging skills like digital, data or operations you’ll be ready for tomorrow.
- Competitive edge – When your team’s performance, retention and skills are better than your competitors, you’re positioned to win market share.
- Return on investment – Apprenticeships aren’t cost centres – they’re growth drivers.
“The trainers were very knowledgeable and were always happy to help or book in some time to go through anything I didn’t understand. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Fareport for the CIPD level 5. I was pleased with the initial induction, the learning experience and the trainers throughout.”
“I am more confident in what I do. Amy was there for me when needed and provided information when required. Thank you Amy for your help and support. I am interested in maybe looking into project work.”
“After successfully passing my Level 4 School Business Professional in May 2026. I have been offered a position of School business manager at another school. As the new employer recognised my qualification. I will have training and mentoring to support my transition for the first term. I already knew the career path I wanted and the apprenticeship was a great step to assist with that. Sarah Pettet was a great tutor and appreciated her time and support. That allowed me to succeed. She was always on hand when needed and really enjoyed learning new skills and wider knowledge of School Business Professional.”
“Our tutor was always quick to respond to any of my queries and was also able to make time for some extra lessons. Overall I enjoyed the learning experience and the content of the course.”
“After completing my apprenticeship, I applied for the position of the Federation Business Manager and was successful. My mentor Sarah Pettett was amazing. Very knowledgeable, supportive and funny.”
