Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are Level 4 and 5 qualifications, positioned between A/T Levels and degree programs. Created in collaboration with awarding bodies, employers, and businesses, HTQs are tailored to provide learners with the targeted training, knowledge, and skills essential for their chosen career paths. These qualifications are intended to be pursued as standalone credentials, offering an alternative to apprenticeships and are not components of apprenticeship programs.

To enrol in a course, you must satisfy the entry criteria established by the provider. These requirements can vary, but often include achieving specific grades in GCSEs or A levels, and sometimes in particular subjects. Additionally, many institutions accept a variety of Level 3 qualifications such as BTECs and T levels, and frequently utilize the UCAS Tariff system.

Your choice of study method may vary depending on the subject area. In addition to taking a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) full-time, there are also options to study part-time, online, or through other flexible formats. For example, many courses are offered through distance learning.

Enrolling in a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) as a standalone program will incur tuition fees, which vary based on the course. Typically, fees range from approximately £7,000 to £9,250 per annum for courses lasting one or two years.

Eligible students may access government-backed tuition fee and maintenance loans through Student Finance England. Additionally, qualifying individuals might be entitled to scholarships, bursaries, or grants; more information on these can be found on the UCAS website. It's also advisable to inquire with HTQ providers about any available special funding, including the possibility of support through an Advanced Learner Loan

Starting in the 2023/24 academic year, the government will extend student loan eligibility to those pursuing part-time HTQs. If you are employed, your employer may also contribute towards your HTQ studies.

Navigating student funding options can be complex, so it's essential to seek current and comprehensive information and advice.
