Course Overview

Are you ready to move into project management? If you have experience in construction, building services or a skilled trade, the Surrey Project Management for Construction with Green Skills Bootcamp can help you build the practical skills employers are looking for. Whether you’re currently unemployed or already working in the industry, you’ll learn how to plan, manage and deliver construction projects while developing green skills that support more sustainable ways of working. You’ll also have the opportunity to achieve the nationally recognised APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), helping you prepare for project management roles and future career progression.

60 hour course over 10 weeks

This 10-week online programme begins on 3rd November 2026, with live sessions every Tuesday from 9:30am to 4:00pm. Regular breaks are built into the day, making it easier to balance your learning with work and other commitments

Live online workshops combining expert tutor-led learning with interactive group activities and practical project management exercises

Gain the nationally recognised APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), alongside a Skills Bootcamp completion certificate awarded by Fareport Training and Surrey County Council.

If you live in Surrey and are currently unemployed, work as a sole trader or freelancer, or own a business with no employees, you may be eligible for 100% funding through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Small and medium-sized businesses (1-250 employees) contribute just 10% of the course cost, with the DWP funding the remaining 90%, while larger organisations (251+ employees) contribute 30%, with the DWP covering the remaining 70%. Funding is subject to meeting the programme’s eligibility criteria.

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for Surrey residents with experience in construction, building services or skilled trades who want to develop practical project management skills and progress into roles with greater responsibility.

This programme is particularly suitable for:

  • People who are currently unemployed and have experience in construction, building services or skilled trades, and are looking to transition into a project management career
  • Construction professionals and skilled tradespeople who want to build their project management knowledge and take on more responsibility within their current role or organisation
  • Professionals working in construction, electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilation (HVAC), property maintenance, refurbishment, civil engineering and other specialist trades who want to strengthen their project management and green skills
  • Site Administrators, Project Support Officers and Project Coordinators looking to develop their understanding of project planning, reporting, scheduling, risk management and stakeholder communication to support progression into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles
  • Anyone committed to developing their professional skills, achieving the nationally recognised APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) and helping deliver more sustainable construction projects.

To enrol on this Skills Bootcamp, you must be aged 19 or over, live in Surrey, have the legal right to work in the UK, and have been a UK resident for the previous 12 months.

This programme is ideal if you:

  • Are currently unemployed and have experience in construction, building services or a skilled trade, and want to transition into a project management role
  • Already work in construction, building services or a skilled trade and are looking to strengthen your project management skills and progress into a role with greater responsibility.

During the Bootcamp, you’ll build practical project management and green skills that can be applied to a wide range of construction projects. You’ll also prepare for the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) while benefiting from live tutor-led sessions, personalised guidance and ongoing support to help you achieve your goals and progress your career.

Modules

This session explores the role and responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant and how they contribute to the wider school environment. Learners will also reflect on the importance of being a positive role model in daily school life.

The focus here is on developing effective relationships with learners, teachers, and other professionals to support learner progress. Participants will also learn about professional boundaries and relevant legislation.

This session introduces key stages of child and adolescent development, from the Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5. It also addresses the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s).

In this session, participants will explore different types of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and learn inclusive teaching strategies. The session also covers assistive technology, relevant legislation, and Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This session provides strategies for supporting English and Maths learning in alignment with the national curriculum. It also examines ways to adapt teaching for learners with SEND.

Learners will be introduced to the cycle of learning, assessment, and feedback. The session also covers monitoring progress, formative assessment strategies, scaffolding, and questioning techniques.

This session explores approaches to behaviour management, including when to apply rewards and sanctions. The importance of positive communication and collaboration for supporting SEND learners is also highlighted.

Here participants will gain an understanding of the importance of legislation, policies, and procedures in educational settings. Safeguarding, Data Protection, British Values, Keeping Children Safe In Education (KCSIE), Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and local safeguarding partnerships are unpacked.

The focus of this session is on supporting learners’ social, emotional, and mental health needs. It also covers online safety, bullying, and the role of wider support services such as CAMHS and MHST.

This final session introduces career pathways such as apprenticeships, HLTA roles, and teaching routes. It also reinforces professional standards to support future development.

Session 1: Project Management Basics

Develop a solid foundation in construction project management, covering project lifecycles, planning techniques, business cases and sustainability principles, including Net Zero and the circular economy.

Session 2: Project Teams Roles & Success Criteria

Learn how successful project teams are structured and managed, including stakeholder engagement, risk management, project planning and measuring project success through both commercial and sustainability objectives.

Session 3: Project Execution

Explore how construction projects are successfully delivered, including project governance, reporting, decision-making, PMOs and integrating sustainability into project delivery.

Session 4: Scheduling, Estimating & Change Control

Gain practical skills in project scheduling, estimating, procurement and change control, while understanding how project decisions can affect environmental performance.

Session 5: Project Closure

Learn how to successfully complete projects through quality management, audits and continuous improvement, while capturing sustainability benefits and lessons learned for future projects.

Session 6: Leadership & Teamwork

Develop the leadership, communication and teamwork skills needed to build high-performing project teams, manage conflict and lead projects responsibly and ethically.

Session 7: Decision Making & Agile

Build confidence in making effective project decisions while exploring Agile and Scrum methodologies within construction, alongside ethical procurement and responsible project management.

Session 8: Digital Project Management Tools

Discover how digital project management tools (e.g. Monday.com, Smartsheet, Gantt), reporting systems and AI can improve project planning, collaboration, reporting and decision-making across construction projects.

Session 9: Presentation Skills & Careers

Strengthen your presentation and communication skills while exploring career progression, continuing professional development (CPD), the Association for Project Management (APM), and how to communicate sustainability outcomes effectively.

Session 10: End Of Course Reflection & Exam

Consolidate your learning with a full revision session before completing the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) exam, followed by reflection on your learning and future career development.
