The Surrey Cyber Security Skills Bootcamp provides practical, career-focused training across cyber security and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies. You’ll develop skills in cloud security, identity and access management, threat protection, data protection and risk management, while working towards the Microsoft AZ-900 and SC-900 certification exams – valuable credentials to support your career development and future opportunities
60 hours over 11 weeks
Starting on the 7th October 2026, this Bootcamp runs every Wednesday for 11 weeks, from 9.30am to 4pm. Each session is designed to be flexible and engaging, with plenty of time for breaks, lunch and your work commitments
Delivered through live online learning with two in-person face-to-face sessions, this interactive, group-based programme combines expert-led teaching with practical activities, discussions and hands-on exercises to help you apply your learning and stay engaged throughout
Work towards the Microsoft AZ-900 and SC-900 certifications, alongside a certificate of completion from Fareport Training and Surrey County Council
If you’re based in Surrey and work as a freelancer, sole trader, business owner without employees, or you’re currently unemployed, you may be eligible for full course funding, provided through Surrey County Council. For small and medium-sized businesses (1–250 employees), a 10% employer contribution per employee attending applies (typically £240), with the remaining 90% funded by Surrey County Council. Larger organisations (over 250 employees) contribute 30%, while 70% is covered by the council. Please note that funding availability depends on meeting all eligibility requirements.
This Surrey Cyber Security Skills Bootcamp is open to employees, self-employed professionals, freelancers, business owners and those currently unemployed in Surrey. It’s a great opportunity to develop practical cyber security and Microsoft Azure cloud skills, building your knowledge and confidence to help protect systems and data in today’s digital world.
To enrol, you must live in Surrey and be aged 19 or over. The Bootcamp is open to employed professionals, freelancers, self-employed individuals, business owners & those currently unemployed.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and have lived here continuously for at least the last 12 months. You should also have a genuine interest in cyber security and cloud technologies, with the enthusiasm and commitment to develop new skills throughout the programme.

Build a strong foundation in cloud computing and cyber security. Explore the shared responsibility model, different cloud service models including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, and the importance of safeguarding information and using technology responsibly. You’ll also get your first introduction to Microsoft Azure through practical discussions, activities and quizzes.
Explore the core concepts behind Microsoft Azure, including its architecture, regions, availability zones, datacentres and key services. You’ll also develop an understanding of virtual networks, subnets, IP addressing, DNS, network security groups and VPN connectivity, supported by practical demonstrations and activities.
Learn how organisations can control and protect access to their systems using Microsoft Entra ID. Understand the difference between authentication and authorisation and explore important security measures including Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and conditional access, with practical scenarios focused on protecting user accounts.
Discover how Microsoft security technologies can help organisations identify, monitor and respond to cyber threats. You’ll be introduced to Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel, explore threat protection and security operations, and practise identifying alerts and analysing security incidents.
Develop your understanding of data protection and compliance using Microsoft Purview. Explore data classification, sensitivity labels and Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and consider how organisations can better protect personal and sensitive information through practical compliance scenarios.
This face-to-face session focuses on developing the wider skills that can support you in the workplace. Explore time and stress management, personal development and reflective practice, alongside completing your first mock exam to help assess your progress.
Learn how organisations identify and manage cyber security risks through effective governance. Explore Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), Azure Policy, security policies and risk management, before applying your knowledge to practical risk and governance activities.
Understand the commercial and operational side of Microsoft Azure, including pricing models, cost management, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and support plans. You’ll explore cost optimisation using the Azure Pricing Calculator while continuing to prepare for your certification exams.
Consolidate your learning and prepare for the Microsoft AZ-900 and SC-900 certification exams. You’ll revisit key topics from across the programme, work through practice questions and mock tests, and develop exam strategies to help you approach your assessments with confidence.
Put your learning into practice by completing the Microsoft AZ-900 and SC-900 certification exams. The session also includes final revision, reflection on your learning and achievements, course feedback and consideration of your next steps.
Finish the programme with a face-to-face session focused on turning your new skills into future opportunities. Explore career pathways in cloud and cyber security, job-search techniques and interview best practice, before putting your skills into action through mock interviews and feedback.

Individuals are permitted to enrol in only one Skills Bootcamp per funding year (1st April to 31st March).
This limitation ensures that participants can fully commit to and benefit from the intensive training provided by each bootcamp. It also allows equitable access to these government-funded programmes, enabling a broader range of individuals to enhance their skills and improve their employment prospects. Therefore, if you have already completed a Skills Bootcamp within the current funding year, you would need to wait until the next funding cycle to enrol in another.
The Cyber Security Skills Bootcamp is designed to support individuals at different stages of their careers – whether you’re developing your existing IT skills, running your own business, exploring a new career direction or seeking employment. You’ll build practical knowledge across cyber security and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies, including identity and access management, threat protection, data protection, compliance and risk management.
By completing the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to work towards the Microsoft AZ-900 and SC-900 certifications, helping you demonstrate your new cloud and security knowledge and support your future career development.

On completion, participants will also receive a Cyber Security Skills Bootcamp certificate from Fareport Training and Surrey County Council.
