Ready to take the next step in your career? The Essex Project Management for Construction with Green Skills Bootcamp is designed for Essex residents with experience in construction, building services and skilled trades. Whether you’re currently unemployed and looking to move into project management, or already working in the industry and ready to take on greater project management responsibilities, this practical, industry-focused programme will help you develop the skills employers are looking for. You’ll learn how to plan, coordinate and deliver successful construction projects while building the green skills needed to support a more sustainable future. You’ll also have the opportunity to achieve the nationally recognised APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), helping you stand out to employers and progress your career with confidence.

60 hour course over 10 weeks
This course starts on the 7th October 2026 & takes place every Wednesday, 9:30am to 4pm, for 10 weeks. The course consists of 8 online sessions and 2 in-person sessions. There’s regular breaks throughout the day to manage your work commitments too.
Interactive online group classes and 2 in-person sessions that blend professional coaching with practical, collaborative exercises
Achieve the well-respected APM Project Management Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), along with a completion certificate issued by Fareport Training and Essex County Council
If you live in Essex and work as a sole trader, freelancer, or run a business without staff – or if you’re currently unemployed, you may be eligible for full course funding from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). For small to medium-sized businesses (1–250 employees), employers contribute just 10%, with the DWP covering the rest. Larger organisations with over 250 employees are responsible for 30% of the course cost, while the DWP funds the remaining 70%. Please note that access to this funding is subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.
This Skills Bootcamp is ideal for Essex residents who have experience in construction, building services or skilled trades and want to develop the project management skills needed to progress their careers.
It is particularly suited to:
- People who are currently unemployed and have industry experience and are looking to retrain for a project management role
- Construction professionals and skilled tradespeople who want to take on greater project management responsibilities within their current organisation
- People working across construction, electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilation (HVAC), property maintenance, refurbishment, civil engineering and other specialist trades who want to build practical project management and green skills
- Site administrators and project support professionals who are already supporting construction projects in an administrative or coordination role. This Bootcamp will strengthen their understanding of project planning, reporting, risk management and stakeholder communication, helping them progress towards Project Coordinator, Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles
- Individuals who are committed to developing their skills, achieving the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) and supporting more sustainable construction projects.
To join this Skills Bootcamp, you must be aged 19 or over, live in Essex, have the legal right to work in the UK, and have lived in the UK continuously for the last year.
This programme is designed for two groups of learners:
- People who are currently unemployed and have experience in construction, building services or skilled trades, and are looking to move into a project management role
- People already working in construction, building services or skilled trades who want to develop their project management skills and take on greater project management responsibilities.
Throughout the Bootcamp, you’ll develop practical project management and green skills that can be applied across construction projects, while preparing for the nationally recognised APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ). You’ll receive expert-led training, personalised support and guidance from experienced tutors throughout your learning journey, helping you build the confidence to progress your career.

Session 2: Project Teams Roles & Success Criteria
Learn how successful project teams are structured and managed, including stakeholder engagement, risk management, project planning and measuring project success through both commercial and sustainability objectives.
Session 3: Project Execution
Explore how construction projects are successfully delivered, including project governance, reporting, decision-making, PMOs and integrating sustainability into project delivery.
Session 4: Scheduling, Estimating & Change Control
Gain practical skills in project scheduling, estimating, procurement and change control, while understanding how project decisions can affect environmental performance.
Session 5: Project Closure
Learn how to successfully complete projects through quality management, audits and continuous improvement, while capturing sustainability benefits and lessons learned for future projects.
Session 6: Leadership & Teamwork
Develop the leadership, communication and teamwork skills needed to build high-performing project teams, manage conflict and lead projects responsibly and ethically.
Session 7: Decision Making & Agile
Build confidence in making effective project decisions while exploring Agile and Scrum methodologies within construction, alongside ethical procurement and responsible project management.
Session 8: Digital Project Management Tools
Discover how digital project management tools (e.g. Monday.com, Smartsheet, Gantt), reporting systems and AI can improve project planning, collaboration, reporting and decision-making across construction projects.
Session 9: Presentation Skills & Careers
Strengthen your presentation and communication skills while exploring career progression, continuing professional development (CPD), the Association for Project Management (APM), and how to communicate sustainability outcomes effectively.
Session 10: End Of Course Reflection & Exam
Consolidate your learning with a full revision session before completing the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) exam, followed by reflection on your learning and future career development.
