If you want to grow your future leaders in-house, with a team who have the strategic skills needed to influence commercial success, the Buying & Merchandising Level 6 apprenticeship could be the perfect programme for you. I particularly enjoy delivering this programme because it brings together creativity, commercial thinking, relationship management, and data-driven decision-making, all of which are essential for success in modern retail. One of my favourite parts of the programme is the negotiation session. Effective negotiation is a critical skill for anyone working in buying and merchandising because you’re constantly balancing the needs of different stakeholders, whether that’s suppliers, colleagues, senior leaders, or customers. Strong negotiation skills help learners build credibility, manage competing priorities, influence decisions, secure better outcomes, and create relationships built on trust rather than conflict. It’s a highly practical session that learners often tell me they continue to use long after the programme has finished, both professionally and personally.
What makes this apprenticeship particularly rewarding is seeing learners grow into confident strategic decision-makers who can balance customer needs, brand objectives, and commercial performance. Whether their ambition is to progress into a senior buying, merchandising, or commercial leadership role, this programme will give learners the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to achieve their goals, and I’d be delighted to support you on that journey.

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end buying and merchandising process, from product selection and range planning through to supplier management, forecasting, pricing, and stock optimisation. The programme is designed around real workplace challenges, allowing your team member to apply their learning immediately and make a measurable impact within your organisation.
The Assistant Buyer and Assistant Merchandiser qualification is a great way to learn and implement new skills, knowledge and behaviours within an Assistant Buyer/Buyer or Assistant Merchandiser/Merchandiser role. This apprenticeship is suitable for Assistant Buyers or Assistant Merchandisers who trade Food, Fashion or General Merchandise, including through stores, exclusively online and those who operate through a variety of channels.
