3 Steps to Enrol an Apprentice

Enrolling an apprentice is a valuable way to develop new talent or upskill existing staff. Whether you’re looking to bring fresh talent into your business or invest in the professional development of current employees, apprenticeships offer a structured, cost-effective training solution.

Here we outline how to enrol an apprentice, and what you can expect from a training provider, such as Fareport.

Step 1: Find the course you are interested in

The first step is to decide which Apprenticeship best fits your business needs.

If you want to enrol an apprentice who currently works for your business, we’ll help you match their current role and future potential to the right course. If you’re hiring for a new position, we can guide you in selecting an Apprenticeship that aligns with the role’s responsibilities and long-term goals for your organisation.

Apprenticeships are available across various levels and sectors, from Level 2 in Adult Care or Healthcare Support to Leadership & Management, Marketing, Professional Services, and more. Whether you’re supporting a new employee, or an experienced team member, we’ll ensure the qualification suits their experience level and career progression.

Not sure where to start? Our expert team can help you assess your training needs and recommend the best route for your business. You can find out Apprenticeship levels in our ultimate guide.

Step 2: Enquire to the provider

Once you’ve identified the type of apprenticeship you’re interested in, the next step is to contact us.

You can either complete an enquiry form, you can email us at [email protected] or call us on 01329 825805.  We’ll discuss your goals, learn more about your workforce, and help you explore apprenticeship options that deliver the most value to your organisation.

You will need to provide as much relevant information as possible. This will help the Fareport team understand your business needs, which allows us to refine the course for your aspiring apprentice.

Step 3: Ensure you meet eligibility requirements

Before you enrol an apprentice, we’ll work with you to confirm eligibility criteria for the apprentice. This includes confirming that they’re over 16, living in the UK, and not currently in full-time education.

From 2025, individuals aged 19 and over will no longer be required to complete Functional Skills in Maths and English as part of their Apprenticeship. This change increases flexibility and broadens access to apprenticeship opportunities.

Once eligibility is confirmed, Fareport will handle the onboarding process, ensuring both employer and apprentice understand the training journey ahead. We’ll also support you with any paperwork, funding queries, and compliance requirements.
