A HR Support Worker handles day to day queries, whilst providing HR advice to managers on a wide range of HR issues. Candidates should be either working in a medium to large organisation as part of the HR function delivering front line support to managers and employees or an HR Manager in a small organisation.
Duties are likely to include handling day to day queries and providing HR advice; working on a range of HR processes, ranging from transactional to relatively complex, from recruitment through to retirement; using HR systems to keep records; providing relevant HR information to the business; working with the business on HR changes.
This apprenticeship is an ideal starting point for anyone looking to begin or progress their career in Human Resources. Learners will develop an understanding of key HR functions, including employment law, policies and procedures, HR systems, service delivery, employee relations, and effective communication. The apprenticeship provides the opportunity to apply this learning directly within the workplace, building both confidence and practical HR knowledge. Learners will develop their problem-solving skills, learn how to support managers and employees and gain experience in managing HR information and projects. Most importantly, the apprenticeship will help build confidence, supporting the employee’s future career growth and enabling them to identify the areas of HR that best suit their interests and strengths.
This programme is designed for people who are new to an HR role as well as those who already have some experience and want to strengthen their knowledge, skills and confidence.
Learners start by looking at the bigger picture: understanding your organisation, how HR fits within it and the part their role plays. From there, we gradually build their HR toolkit. Areas such as HR legislation and policies, systems and processes, communication and interpersonal skills, delivering a great HR service, problem-solving, managing HR information and supporting projects will also be covered.
For me as one of the trainers on the course, becoming a good HR professional is about more than knowing policies and processes. It’s also about how they work with people. Throughout the apprenticeship, I’ll encourage learners to think about how they communicate, build trust, handle confidential or sensitive situations, respond to change, solve problems and have the confidence to challenge appropriately. We’ll also look at the learner’s personal development and how feedback can help them continue to grow. If your team member is looking to build strong foundations for a career in HR and you want them to learn in a way that connects directly with the job they are doing, I’d be delighted to support you through that journey.
