Tell us briefly about your business and your role.

Novatech, founded in 1987 and based in Portsmouth, delivers custom computer hardware and IT managed services to businesses and individuals across the UK. From remote workforce device management with our Direct2Desk service and high‑performance servers to creative workstations and gaming systems, we provide tailored solutions trusted by leading organisations. Driven by innovation and sustainability, our headquarters is now a net‑positive building, generating more energy than it consumes.

I lead the HR function in a business that truly values people as its greatest asset. My role is to support employees and managers across the organisation, fostering a culture of wellbeing, trust, and fairness where everyone feels empowered to be themselves. As a generalist HR team, we manage the full employee lifecycle — from recruitment and onboarding to development, engagement, and exit. By partnering closely with managers, we ensure they have the tools and confidence to lead effectively, while aligning our people strategies with the company’s wider strategic goals.

What challenge or goal led you to work with Fareport?

We wanted to strengthen our internal HR capability and build confidence in handling more complex people matters. Partnering with Fareport offered structured learning, practical skills and professional accreditation that would enable our HR Coordinator (now HR Advisor) to support the business more effectively.

Fareport came across as professional, knowledgeable and well-aligned with our needs, which gave us confidence they could deliver the right support.

What has been the biggest benefit of the apprenticeship/training for your team?

The biggest benefit has been the noticeable increase in confidence and capability of our HR Advisor. The apprenticeship has helped them develop a stronger foundation for providing effective, well-informed support to both managers and employees.

Can you share one specific example of positive change since working with us?

Through the apprenticeship, our HR Advisor has led several initiatives, including the rollout of our menopause policy and related training. They have also supported a number of employee relations cases, which has allowed me more time to focus on strategic priorities that support the wider business.

How would you describe your overall experience in a few words?

Confidence-building, practical and impactful — strengthening HR knowledge, improving the quality of advice, and developing project management capability.
