What Is Wellbeing?
The UK government defines wellbeing as “a positive physical, social and mental state.”
Being an apprentice can be tough. With so much to juggle and so many new experiences, it’s important to prioritise your wellbeing. Work and life pressures can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re struggling.
Top Tips for Supporting Your Wellbeing
- Always ask questions – understand what is expected of you rather than assuming everything has equal priority.
- Be clear about what you need to meet expectations.
- Consider your emotions – how do you feel? What do you need? Be clear about your requests.
- Ask for a buddy or mentor — someone to talk to regularly. Or simply chat with a colleague.
- Be active – take a walk or a screen break.
- Have a cuppa!
- Avoid unhealthy habits.
- Look at your time management – work smarter, not harder.
- Stay positive – focus on what you can do.
- Live in the moment – try not to dwell on the past or worry about the future. Consider mindfulness.
What Is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a technique you can learn that involves paying attention to the present moment — without judgement. This may involve becoming more aware of your thoughts, body, or surroundings. While mindfulness has roots in Buddhism and meditation, you don’t have to be spiritual or have specific beliefs to benefit from it.
