Did you know Fareport Training was established in 1981 in order to offer young people a route into work through work-based training?
It hasn’t always been the case since though, let's look back at then and now.
1981 - Fareport Training was established in 1981 in order to offer young people a route into work through work-based training, managed by the founder, Mick Reeve MBE. The main provision was apprentices employed in health and social care.
1998 – The Life Skills programme was introduced, which Fareport was involved with. This programme focused on developing basic skills and personal development for young people who were not ready for more structured education or training.
2003 - The “Entry to Employment” (E2E) programmes were introduced in the UK. These programmes were designed to help young people who were not in education, employment, or training (NEET) to gain the skills and experience needed to enter the workforce or further education. Fareport had a dedicated team delivering to 16 – 24-year-olds.
2010 - After the E2E programmes, the UK introduced the “Foundation Learning” programme in 2010. Foundation Learning aimed to provide a more structured and flexible framework for young people aged 14-19 who were not yet ready for higher-level qualifications or employment. It focused on developing personal, social, and employability skills, alongside basic literacy and numeracy, which Fareport worked with local schools, mainly in the Gosport area.
2012 - We became a City and Guilds (C&G) approved centre.
2013 - The funding for Foundation Learning programmes in the UK ended in July 2013. From August 2013, learners who were assessed at Entry level and Level 1 transitioned to the new 16 to 19 Study Programmes, for which Fareport after time, decided not to deliver on and schools decided to deliver this programme in-house.
2014 - In 2014 the business was purchased with support from entrepreneur Theo Paphitis by Natalie Cahill and Marinos Paphitis. Since then, we have been building on Fareport's excellent reputation for high quality training and delivering training and apprenticeships across England.
2015 – Apprenticeship Levy announced. In England, the use of the levy for funding apprenticeships is the responsibility of the Department for Education, delivered through the Education and Skills Funding Agency. We became a BIIAB and Institute for Leadership and Management (ILM) recognised/approved centre. We also gained the Matrix Standard. The matrix Standard is owned by the Department for Education (DfE) and ensures the delivery of high-quality information, advice and guidance (IAG) services that enable people to reach their full potential.
2017/18 - In 2017 and 2018, the Apprenticeship Levy was introduced, and we moved away from ‘Frameworks’ and onto ‘Standards’. New apprenticeship standards were developed by employer groups known as ‘trailblazers’ We also hired trainers nationally to expand the business outside of the local area.
2020 – Introduction of Skills Bootcamps by the Government. Delivered across 6 areas of England, they focused on digital skills including cyber security, coding, software development and engineering, data analysis and digital marketing. Bootcamp training courses provide access to in-demand sector specific skills training.
2023 – Fareport began to offer Skills Bootcamps in Hampshire. We became a Charted Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) approved centre. HTQ’s introduced. Technical Qualifications at Higher Levels (HTQs) are specialised credentials categorised as Level 4 and 5, positioned strategically to serve as a bridge linking A/T Levels with full university degree programmes.
2024 – Fareport began to offer Skills Bootcamps nationally and we launched our HTQs. We became a Chartered Management Insitute (CMI) approved centre.
Fareport Training now offers a wide range of training for ages 16+ including apprenticeships, Skills Bootcamps and HTQs.
And who knows what is next!
