Please note: you need to be employed to do an Apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and workplace experience. As an employee, you can earn as you learn and you gain practical skills from the workplace.
What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is a formal qualification for employed individuals based around the relevant Qualifications & Credit Framework (QCF) for each sector. The Apprenticeship is awarded on the achievement of the qualification, a technical certificate which recognises the knowledge an individual needs to work in their chosen industry and Functional Maths and English Skills. (Childcare and Commercial frameworks now include I.C.T.) In addition each Apprentice will also complete a workbook on their employment rights and responsibilities to help them become a more valuable employee.

Apprenticeships can be completed by existing staff who want to recognise and develop their skills, or may be someone who has joined the organisation specifically in an apprenticeship role.

There are three levels of Apprenticeship:

Level 2 - Intermediate Level Apprenticeship (G.C.S.E.)
Level 3 - Advanced Level Apprenticeship ('A' - Level)
Level 4 - Higher Level apprenticeship (Degree)

How long does an Apprenticeship last?
On average an Intermediate Apprenticeship at Level 2 will take 1 year and an Advanced Apprenticeship at Level 3 will take 2 years but each programme is planned individually to reflect the needs and abilities of the learner.

Different subjects can also vary the length of programme but employers and learners are fully aware of targets before they commit to the Apprenticeship.
What will it cost me?
Currently the Skills Funding Agency (SFA – a Government funded organisation) fund the majority of Apprenticeship programmes.

For the programmes we offer this means that there is no cost to Employers or individuals outside of the staff time and commitment to the programme.

All Apprentices must be employed and if they have been taken on as an employee as an Apprentice then they must be earning at least £95 per week (at the start of programme – there are also legal implications for the minimum wage which our staff can advise you on).
Who are apprenticeships for?
Apprenticeships are open to anyone but funding is split into three age ranges:
16 to 18 year olds
19 to 24
25+
The flexibility of the Apprenticeship programmes means that there is a course to suit every job and our experienced staff will be happy to arrange an informal interview to discuss your options as an employer or employee.

We offer the service of matching employers with Apprenticeships so if you are looking for a new staff member, or looking for the right job opportunity then we can support you – at no charge to either party.
